Forest habitat around Idaho City is structured by elevation, aspect, hydrology, fire history, snowpack, timber condition, and disturbance. Lower and drier sites grade into shrub-steppe, bitterbrush, sagebrush, grassland, ponderosa-pine woodland, and dry mixed-conifer forest; cooler and higher terrain supports Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, subalpine forest, wet meadows, riparian vegetation, and headwater systems.
